A you tube ‘star’ who goes by the name of Mr Beast Burgers, with a sizeable online following has just mike dropped 2020, by overnight opening a virtual 300 chain restaurant business in the US.
By making use of existing dark kitchens, who cater to the demand of the likes of deliveroo, uber eats etc and by having an existing online brand with a sizeable online following. Even though it’s a delivery only burger, it’s placed itself right in the middle of several long established brands.
Think about that, no leases to sign, no kitchens to fit out, no ingredients to buy, no staff to hire – it’s like drop shipping food.
Is this a food play, a social media play, a tech play, a property play or something we don’t have a term for yet?
Personally I think it’s genius and going into 2021 we need to start thinking more laterally and using all the tools at our disposal.
